How to make your own fridge magnets

What a fantastic idea! And believe me, it is great no matter what occasion and no matter how old you are. Until there is a personal touch to it, the gifted person is going to love it. So don’t waste any time and learn how to make your own fridge magnets. You need very minimal supplies to make it and there are a few ways too.

You can buy ready magnet canvas’ which is about 2.5 inches by 2.5 inch in size but if you are more ambitious and would like to have it a bit bigger you can buy just a canvas 3″ x 3″ or 4″ x 4″ in size. Those don’t come with a magnet at the back of it so you will need a photo magnet sheet which is self-adhesive. You just need to use a pair of scissors to cut the right size and stick it to the back of the canvas.

Now you just need to get a small brush and some acrylic paints and get to work. You can obviously find tons of designs online. Try to pick an easy one if you are a beginner artist. You should focus on one object and try to work out details as good as you can to achieve the great result.

If it is a birthday gift you can go for simple flowers, paint a teddy, doll, or a train, just think about something that is going to be close to the interests or hobbies of the special person who will receive the gift.

If it’s Christmas, you can paint a tree with decorations on it or a snowman with a red hat on his head. For Mothers Day you can paint a sunset that your mom loves or maybe a hot air balloon which she always dreamt about. The possibilities are endless.

Exhibition Evening at the Immigration Center

What a fantastic night! Exhibition Evening at the Immigration Center was a huge success. It was such a pleasure to be part of a joined exhibition of 9 artists. We had about 120 guests, live music, snacks, silent auction and several fantastic sponsors who had made this special event even more attractive.I had a pleasure talking to many interesting people and share the experience of art and its creation. I could tell all of the stories related to my art and when and why it was created. Thank you for all kind words and compliments and thank you for taking so many fliers and business cards with you.Each of us has presented different technique, subject, and different medium. There were oil, acrylics, pastels and liquid paint. Colors and shapes were rolling through the spacious room full of visitors in evening clothes. It was great to make some new friends and I hope to meet you again next year or even sooner during other types of artistic events. It was the first Exhibition Evening at the Immigration Center and there are plans in place to have it scheduled as an annual celebration of local art and artists.

Front door decor DIY

If you love crochet you will love to try out this front door decor DIY. First, you need to decide on your favorite color combination. Since spring is on the way you may think of some yellow and orange and red with green. That would give a very fresh and happy look on your front door. I love blue and all of its shades and variations. It doesn’t really matter if the yarn has the same thickness or not, you can make it work between colors and actually different types of yarn will make it look even more interesting. You will also need a floral ring, could be made of foam or stick like the one I have picked.Now you have to crochet as many beautiful flowers as you like. you can find plenty of instructions, patterns, and tutorials on youtube. It is best to make many different shapes and sizes and then work it out coloristically to create some balance of your composition.Once you think you got enough of them you can fix it to the ring. I have used some extra yarn to roll on the floral ring and create the background wherever there are gaps between the flowers. I just feel that it makes a neat look. Then I have added the flowers using those longer pieces of yarn I have left after crocheting the flowers. Make sure the flowers are sturdy and attached well as they may be exposed to wind or other harsh weather conditions and you don’t want them to fall off. My front door decor DYI wouldn’t be complete without those shiny pearls here and there. You could add any colorful beads, whatever feels good and make sense for your own composition.

Cylinder Pillow Tutorial

If you are looking for a project which doesn’t take much time and much fabric to complete you are in the right place. Cylinder Pillow is as easy as any square pillowcase and takes a little effort or skills. This tutorial will show you step by step how to cut fabric and best way to stitch it together. The first pillow took me about 30 minutes to make but the second one only half of this time.You will need a rectangular piece of fabric 19.5 x 16.5 inch and two circles with about 7.5 or 8-inch diameter. I used a breakfast plate to get perfect circle shape. Then you have to sew the rectangular piece to create a sleeve. Simply connect shorter parts of the shape together. Remember to sew on the left side.Now you need to fit in the circular shapes on each end. If you follow my size directions, the circle will be a bit bigger than the sleeve so you will have to make small gatherings here and there. Try to make it as even as possible. I have stitched twice on each side to make it stronger. Now our roll pillow is on the left side altogether so we have to create an opening to turn it on the right side and stuff it. My opening is about 5 inches wide. Now we just have to stuff it and stitch the opening up. Just make sure there is enough of stuffing at each end so your new favorite bolster cushion will keep the desired shape for a long time. You will not be able to close this opening with use of sewing machine, You will have to do it by hand and please make sure to make it nice and flat so you don’t feel the stitch when you use the pillow. By the way, this cylinder pillow is small enough to wash it in the washing machine so you don’t need to make a pillow and a separate case for it. When your roll pillow gets dirty pop it into the washing machine but please don’t use the dryer because stuffing will get very fluffy and pillow might lose its shape.

DIY Toilet Paper Holder

Many of you don’t know it but we bought a new house a few months ago and we are still working on some re-decorations and painting. I have painted our powder room recently and installed some accent shelves. Now I have to design a fancy toilet paper holder to make it look even better.

What do you think about reversible DIY Toilet Paper Holder? I think this is a great idea to prevent boredom and since I have introduced two colors of towers I can switch the look of my powder room around dependence on my mood.You can see this big transformation of my powder room in photos. If you plan to refresh yours make sure you are well prepared and if you are it shouldn’t take longer than 1 day. But I should go bask to the main subject of this post and tell you my DIY Toilet Paper Holder design and very simple pattern to follow. I didn’t take measurements with measuring tape, I have simply rolled toilet paper over the sheet of fabric and kept some 2 inches on each end of the additional finish. I have also cut two longer pieces which were about an inch wide and half longer than the main strip of fabric.First I have prepared strings. You will have to double fold it and then sew all along. Once I did the same with both of the strips I cut them in half to have the total of 4 strings. Each of them should have an ending knot on one side.Now I have created gathering on the piece of the white window curtain. I did it about 2 inches wide. Put your top tension setting on zero (0). The sewing machine will start gathering for you. Sew it all the way and then see if you would like to have more folds. I did like to have quite a lot of it, so I have pulled one of the threats to push fabric closer to each other.
Once you have completed gathering and you have cut it off from the rest of the fabric you can start sewing it on once of the wider strips. Make sure to position the thrill on the right side of the fabric.This is how it looks like after completing.Now when you flip it, the thrill will be neat and clean and the stitch will be on the inside.Then you have to repeat the same on the other side of the first fabric strip. Once done you can sew on the second strip as shown in the photo below. Both fabric strips should face each other and thrills on the inside between the strips. Make sure to keep the spare fabric on each end so you can fold it in later and close the gaps.This is how it looks after flipping it all on the right side. I have sewed it through again along of each side.Now you can fold in ends and add strings. You should have two of them at each end.
This is how finished product looks like. Now you can attach it and your DIY toilet paper holder works like a charm. Now you can reverse it on the other side and pretend you have two 🙂

Winter Beaded Bracelet Set

If you are not new to my blog you have probably realized by now that blue is my favorite color. Winter season is perfect an opportunity to bring beautiful shades of blue and white together and have some fun with it. I have made this Winter Beaded Bracelet Set to fulfill my promise about Frozen design and I think it is great for moms and for daughters. You can obviously go with any color combination, so I did one black and silver set as well with a bit different style of earrings. Ok, but first things first! Let’s get on beading! Prepare beads size 4 mm or a bit bigger and two colors of glass seed beads. Get first string pulled on and make sure to secure each end with metal bead and players. Add second string which should have extra length. We will need it to wrap up the bigger size of beads. Now you need to add a different color of seed beads on each string. I have used count of 10 but you may need more if your main string of beads is bigger in the size.Cross both wires in one bead and add more seed beads to cross them again on the back of the main string.Repeat same back and forth until all main string of beads was wrapped. Then you need to close wire on the lock with the metal bead. If you like this design you may also like to make matching earrings which are really 5 minutes job.I have used the same type of metal wire to add seed beads. It wraps those bigger two beads like number 8 shape would. If you can’t see it well I can make a separate tutorial on the earrings only. Just send me a short message and I get it done in the flash.Both items look really cute together and both Winter Beaded Bracelet Sets are on sale now. Sparkle Ball Bracelet

How is your carnival going on? Did you all celebrate it? I’m was always fascinated with the carnival of South America, so many vibrant colors and costume designs! To have little sense of it I came up with Sparkle Ball Bracelet which is a mini version of shiny jewelry which carnival guests normally wear.The most important element is to capture as much of sparkle as possible. I’m not sure if I did it but I still like the result quite a lot.We have to start with your favorite beads in the silver or gold color (whichever you prefer). More of elements will be better and more interesting.First, you have to cut longer wire, about 40 cm, feed it through a metal bead and one part of the locker. Then press the bead to close it tight on the wire. Now you can feed first seed beads on each side of the wire (10 each for medium size).Cross the wires through charm and crystal bead which is set as the heart of it. Then add another 10 (or more) seed beads on each wire and cross it on some really standing out. I have added metal “frozen” bead. Then you go on with seed beads again.Cross the wire through the charm and crystal bead in the middle. Then I have set different type of charm in the middle with a little heart attached. It looks so beautiful 🙂 Then you have to carry on until you have enough of repetition to complete all bracelet. Then lock it again by pressing on the metal bead again.Sparkle Ball Bracelet is a perfect fit for any carnival festivities you can imagine. I have picked silver which is quite neutral and can match most of your outfits but you can also go with gold or any other color combination but you have to remember to make it as sparkle as possible.

Star Bracelet Jewelry

What is the best start in the New Year? I’m sure most of the ladies agree that jewelry could be an answer. I have designed this beautiful Star Bracelet Jewelry in the set with earrings which could bring a smile on many faces.

You can really go with any center which will have attachments on both sides. I have picked this beautiful star which some may argue looks more like a snowflake. How appropriate for this time of the year! Now I regret I didn’t make it in light blue, then it would totally look like the bracelet which could belong to Frozen 🙂 I will correct myself for next idea and it will be all in blue.First, you need to cut a longer piece of wire which have you will feed through the eye on one side of the star. Then you can start feeding seed beads in the color of your choice. I have decided to go with 10 seed beads each string for the medium size. Then I have added the ring on one of the strings and pulled on the pearl bead. Now you will have to put the wire through the ring again so pearl will look like a center of it.Perfect! Now you have to add seed beads, 10 on each wire and add another pearl, this time without the ring (or you can add ring too if you prefer it this way). Add another 10 seed beads on each wire and repeat ring and pearl in the center combination.Super! Now you can complete this side of your star bracelet with the lock and move to the other side. Repeat all the steps again and add other parts of the lock on the second end. Remember to add a small metal bead to lock it on the ends of the wire. This way nothing will sleep out and you have a professional finish on it.

Now you need to make simple pearl earrings to match the bracelet and the set is ready to wear for your next special celebration.
This Star Bracelet Jewelry looks very fashionable and it didn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete it. If you make one with light blue beads maybe Frozen will like to wear it too. Good luck with your designs!

I would like to take an early opportunity and wish everybody Happy New Year 2017 filled with wonderful arts and crafts and sewing projects. Make the longest list of New Year resolutions and then fulfill half of them but the way that results will exceed expectations. Become an expert in one subject, learn something new, try one of those things you have always dreamed of trying. Don’t set any boundaries for your dreams and use your passion to make them real, it is never too late. Find your strength and build on it an empire of fantastic achievements. Find your way and make sure this is how people will remember you.

I have picked my next year inspiration: Water! This life-giving liquid which can appear in so many different forms and can “dress” in so many colors and shades will be a stunning source of creative imagination and guidelines. Think about your own inspirations? What is it? Write down what you think of and then surround yourself with objects which are going to drive you towards it. It will be like your “fuel station” when you fill burned out.

Heaving a great year is in the power of our minds and our hands. Celebrate life with your friends and family! Be optimistic and carry on and if you “fall” make sure to give a chance to the others to lift you up.

Your Best Of 2016

I’m really surprised to hear how difficult 2016 was and I do agree that many horrible things have happened in global politics, economy, and humanity. Many famous people passed away and far too many which we never knew but I know that for many people this year was also a year of babies being born and year of first true love or year of a new chance. Before you will get on your New Year resolutions try to make a list of top 10 best things which has happened to you in 2016. Take your time and try to feel it right from your heart. When you get your first 10 you will feel that you could add another 10. There are so many things to appreciate! Then make an ornament for each of them with a hidden note and year so you won’t forget. Years ahead reading those notes will bring a smile on your face that is for sure. All is about putting things and events into the perspective. But I didn’t want to start a philosophic topic here but to bring up my 3 favorite posts of this year.

Painting for the this year Muslim Fest was so much fun. I simply love this water lily oil painting. It reflects deep darkens of green colored water and brings so much contrast with the white flower. It looks really bold on the lightly colored wall. I have some fantastic plans for 2017 Muslim Fest too and it will be great if you can share this experience with me.

This bracelet was such a good idea. It was quite a lot of work to connect all of those small pieces of chain in between but it was worth it! The result is really stunning and because of multi-color and multi-layer, I can wear it with so many different outfits. I’m planning to use this concept to some other designs and I’m sure you will like those too.

How about this post with super easy pattern making? This one was really useful. I did few different designs of T-shirts for my older daughter and later I have also sewed few T-shirts for my younger one. This pattern making technique made my day and I could produce few pieces of clothes in one day. It was worth to spend some time and cut it from paper first.
